2008 ABS/Easton, Hartley, DE —–  TCP/Easton, Burlington, IA
ABS Easton of Delaware traveled the furthest for the ASA Class A National Championship. And the trip was worth it.  ABS returns to Delaware as the 2008 ASA A National Champ after turning back a determined TCP team 15-10, in the if game at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The loss ended a tremendous run for TCP, who finished 6-2, which was led by pitcher Losson White who was named the tournament’s MVP and clearly deserved it as he did everything he could to propel his team to victory. In fact, if it wasn’t for White, TCP might not have advanced to the if game. It was White’s two-run scorching liner off in the bottom of the seventh that scored the winning and tying runs in a 20-19 win in the first championship game to force the if game.  The 29-year-old White batted .677 and drove  in 12 runs. The front of White’s jersey was evident how hard he worked to get TCP to the championship. It was covered with the Oklahoma red clay as he time and time again dove for balls and stopped them to make the play, some of them spectacular. Brett Helmer, one of the pick-ups for ABS, drove in three runs and finished with a 3-for-4 performance and shared the HR trophy with two other players. The tournament leading hitter was Brian Wegman of ABS, the other ABS pick-up, who batted .900 (18-20, with 7 HRs and 18 RBIs). Note-1: from 2001-present, the ASA went to separate Eastern and Western National Championships.
Note-2: In 2007, the Class-D Program went to the "Four Corners" and had East, South, North and West
National Championships and the Champion from each would meet in Oklahoma City in a 4-team round
robin to determine the National Champion. The Class-C Program adopted this format in 2008. When
the Class-E Program started, they just had the four corners be their own "champion". There was
no unified Class-E National Championship held. Class-B later went back to just one National,
followed by Class-C in 2013. Also in 2013, the Class-D four corners was expanded to include
the top four teams in each area and a 16-team double elimination was held to determine the "D" Champ.

2016 ASA Men’s Super Slow Pitch Nationals

2016 held at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on September 29-30.

Champion – O&S Cattle/Mr. D’s, Stillwater, Minnesota
Runner Up – West Coast Monsta, Calimesa, California

Forced into the “if-game” after dropping a 36-27 decision to WC Monsta in the Championship Game, O&S Cattle/Mr. D’s battled through to claim the 2016 Super Slow Pitch National Championship ASA/USA Softball announced today.

The bats came alive for O&S Cattle/Mr. D’s as the team combined for 12 hits en route to claiming the title in a 22-9 win over WC Monsta in the “if-necessary” game. In their first meeting of the day in the Championship Game, O&S Cattle/Mr. D’s took an early lead in the top of the first inning, capitalizing on a two-run home run and a pair of singles.

WC Monsta responded in the bottom of the frame, cutting the lead to one run after plating three runners off a home run and double. WC Monsta would take the lead in the bottom of the second for good, bringing an additional five runners across the plate to make it an 8-5 lead.

O&S Cattle/Mr. D’s plated two in the top of the third inning to cut WC Monsta’s lead to 8-7, but the west coast squad would explode for 11 hits to score 10 runs and extend their lead to 18-7. Five runs in the top of the fourth inning by O&S Cattle/Mr. D kept the game interesting as WC Monsta led by four as they stepped to the plate in the bottom of the fourth.

That close lead would soon become a large one as WC Monsta again utilized timely hitting to push their lead to 16 runs. Twelve runs in the top of the fifth inning by O&S Cattle/Mr. D’s brought the game within four runs. Three solo home runs started out the offensive burst before four more shots over the fence brought the game to a 28-24 lead for WC Monsta. Three home runs by WC Monsta in the bottom of the fifth regained the team a comfortable 10-run lead.

Both teams would plate runs in the sixth inning, with WC Monsta holding a 36-27 lead as O&S Cattle/Mr. D’s headed to the plate for their final at-bat. Getting two quick outs, O&S Cattle/Mr. D would get two singles but a fly ball to centerfield ended the game with WC Monsta forcing the “if-necessary” game. In the “if-necessary” game, O&S Cattle/Mr. D got an early 4-0 lead and kept WC Monsta off the board to complete the first inning of play.

WC Monsta would return the favor in the top of the second, keeping O&S Cattle/Mr. D from adding to their lead while tacking on a run of their own to make it a 4-1 game.

O&S Cattle/Mr. D added to their lead in the top of the third with a solo home run and an RBI double before WC Monsta cut it to 6-4 after scoring three in the bottom of the frame thanks to a three-run blast. A six-run fifth inning helped expand O&S Cattle/Mr. D’s lead before tacking on another three runs in the top of the sixth to make it an 18-4 game.

WC Monsta’s bats came alive briefly in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs on a pair of home runs and singles. That offensive spurt would not be enough, however, as O&S Cattle/Mr. D would score another four runs in the top of the seventh while keeping WC Monsta to just one run in their final at-bat.

For O&S Cattle, Greg Connell had one of of his usual incredible tournaments (17-26, .654, 10 HR, 18 RBI, 17 Runs). Bubba Mack chipped in with a 18-24 (.750) with 8 HR, 18 RBI, 17 Runs.

For the Monstas, Chente Granados (24-33, .727, 7 HR, 20 RBI, 21 Runs),  Ryan Dacko (22-31, .710, 13 HR, 26 RBI, 21 Runs), Ryan McClanahan (8 HR, 19 RBI), Pilar Amaya (7 HR, 17 RBI) and Jared Hunt (6 HR, 21 RBI) led the onslaught as WC Monsta hit 73 HR, in their 7 games.

2016 ASA Women’s Open Slow Pitch Nationals

2016 held at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Champion: Derby Girls/ASP/Combat, Kent, Washington
Runner Up: Khaos, Harmony, Florida

The Derby Girls scored four runs in the 4th inning to put the final game out of reach for Khaos. The final was 8-1 as Brooke Connell provided the only offense Khaos had with a 3-4 performance along with driving in the only run for the Florida girls. Melissa Perez (15-21, .714, 3 RBIs, 8 Runs), Tara Salcedo (14-22, .636, 5 RBIs, 6 Runs), Amanda Pantley (15-19, .789, 11 RBIs, 6 Runs) and Julie Wisniewski all had 2 hits for the Derby Girls. Bri Benesh (8-12, .667) collected 2 RBIs. Derby Girls/ASP/Combat outscored Khaos 17-3 to hand them back-to-back losses and secure the Women’s Open National title at ASA Hall of Fame Complex Sunday. Despite dropping a 15-5 decision to Khaos Saturday evening, Derby Girls/ASP/Combat defeated Smurf-U, 13-3, to earn a spot in the Championship Game and call for a rematch themselves. While Khaos hung in the game, Derby Girls/ASP/Combat pulled away late for the 9-2 victory. Derby Girls/ASP/Combat’s Dowling was solid at the plate, going 3-for-4 while driving in one and scoring three runs. Derby Girls/ASP/Combat saw four cross the plate in the first inning and proceeded to keep Khaos scorelss until they scored two in the fourth inning. However, it was not enough and Derby Girls/ASP/Combat would force the previously-undefeated team to play an “if-necessary” game for the Championship title. The final game of the tournament was almost déjà vu for Derby Girls/ASP/Combat. The Washington team never trailed after scoring four runs in the first on two doubles, an RBI single byJulie Wisniewski, and an RBI triple by Amanda Pantley. Derby Girls/ASP/Combat went on to score four runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly byLaura Harms, a two-run single by Bri Benesh and an RBI single by Dowling. Khaos managed to score one in the fourth but in the end, it was Derby Girls/ASP/Combat who claimed the Women’s Open division title following a 8-1 victory.

2015 ASA Men’s Super Slow Pitch Nationals

2015 held at Hall of Fame Stadium Complex in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 1-2.

Champion – BBS/Mr. D’s/Rip City, Rochester, Minnesota
Runner Up – Long Haul/H. Auto/Easton, Cicero, New York

BBS of Minnesota defeated West Coast Monsta of California 30-15 in the winners bracket final on Orlando Castillo’s run rule walk off homer. Castillo was 5-5 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in the game. West Coast Monsta then had to face Long Haul in the losers bracket final.

The decision was not close as Long Haul won 34-18. Long Haul had traveled through the losers bracket to reach the championship. They found themselves down 19-5 to Reds Astros, before coming back to win 49-29 on the strength of Ryan Parfitt’s 6-6 game with 4 HR and 8 RBI. Bryson Baker was 7-7 in the win. Long Haul then defeated Heartland Investors 37-21, then T’s 13 fell to the Long Haulers 52-36.

T’s actually led 25-2 and 31-15 in that game, before Long Haul out scored them 50-11 in the last 4 innings. In the Championship round, Long Haul needed to beat BBS to force the “if” game, but that was easier said than done. Long Haul led 25-18 in the 6th inning.

Greg Connell of BBS hit a line drive off the top of the 45 foot high scoreboard to ignite a fire that saw BBS then hit 5 consecutive homers, capped by Lee Payne’s shot that gave then a 26-25 lead. In the top of the 7th, Brett Helmer (4-5, with 3 HR and 6 RBI in the game) hit a HR to tie the game 26-26. It was over quick in the bottom of the 7th as big Greg Connell hit a walk off 2-run home run to win the ASA Super National Championship. Connell and Tournament MVP Andrew Collins combined to go 11-11 with 6 HR and 14 RBI in the final game.

Collins was named the Tournament MVP, Batting Champion (.905) and Co-Home Run Champion with 10.

Ryan Parfitt of Long Haul also hit 10 HR. Dale Brungardt of Long Haul had 26 RBI. Pitcher Travis Clark of Long Haul was 21-29 (.724) with 8 HR and 25 RBI. By far the best tournament by any pitcher.
