Enough Said beat the U.S. Armed Forces team 24-6 in the championship game. Crissy Hixon, Tonja Russell, Ruby Nugent, Tracey Bougare of Enough Said were all 4-4. Bougare added a HR and 7 RBIs. Throughout the four games Enough Said played in the Women’s Open Division, the team from Tallahassee, Fla., outscored opponents 84-18. Twenty-four of the runs came in the 24-6 Championship Game, which turned out to be unbeaten Enough Said’s second pounding of the United States Armed Forces. “We appreciate the Armed Forces,” Enough Said Coach Ian Houston said. “They are a good softball team. We appreciate what they do for our country in terms of protecting our walls so no matter what the story is and what the outcome of the game is, we always hold them in our hearts and keep them in our prayers because they’re taking care of us.” Enough Said also beat Armed Forces 13-4 earlier Saturday afternoon to advance to the final. On Friday, Enough Said topped Ft. Hood Ballers (Killeen, Texas) 28-1 in three innings and Iowa Aces (Urbandale, Iowa) 19-6 in five innings. Armed Forces was within a few runs of the lead in the Championship Game until the fourth, an inning that saw Enough Said score 17 runs with a three run home run, a two run home run, an RBI single, a three run home run, an error, a two-RBI double, an RBI single, a three-run home run and another RBI single. The Armed Forces scored three runs, on a sacrifice fly and a two RBI single, but it was not enough to top Enough Said. Home Run Champions are Sirene Johnson and Misty Smith, who each hit .800 (12-for-15) in the tournament. 2008 NCAA Women’s College World Series

2008 held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 29 – June 3.

Champion – Arizona State Sun Devils (66-5)
Runner Up – Texas A&M Aggies (57-10)

the Arizona State Sun Devils softball team won their first NCAA softball championship, defeating Texas A&M 11-0 in one of the most lopsided title games in college softball history.

ASU was led by senior pitcher Katie Burkhart, who put together an incredible season, balancing a 41-5 record with an 0.75 ERA. Burkhart also threw two perfect games in 2008 and had 1,670 strikeouts over her four-year career.

As the 6th seed in the Women’s College World Series, ASU had to tangle with some impressive teams with loaded resumes, including the Alabama Crimson Tide and the UCLA Bruins. The Sun Devils cruised through the entire weekend with an undefeated 5-0 record, outscoring the competition 24-2 in a dominating display.

Kaitlin Cochran was another key contributor to that team, as her reputation as a prolific hitter preceded her. In 2008, she drew 29 intentional walks, a record. In the title game, Cochran hit a three-run home run and capped off her junior year with a .438 batting average.

MEN’S CLASS B TITLE STAYS IN THE EAST AS LIGHTHOUSE WINS SERIES 3-1 OVER REDWOOD

Lighthouse suffered its first loss of the Series on the final day, but came back with a win to take home the Hooters Championship Series Men’s B Crown with a 3-1 record. Lighthouse took the first two games before a neck and neck game three as no team led by more than two runs. They were tied going into the seventh inning, but Redwood outscored Lighthouse, 4-2 to take home a 13-11 victory and keep the series alive. Lance Dalbey (Minneapolis, MN) led the way for Redwood going 4-for-4 with three runs scored.

The win pushed a game four where Lighthouse secured their title with a 12-2 win. Lighthouse’s Jason Branch (Brooksville, Fla.) scored two runs while going 3-for-4 with three RBI. The series MVP was awarded to third baseman Donnie Burkhalter (Clermont, Fla.) who was 6-for-11 with three home runs and seven RBI.

“This really means a lot to us to win,” said Burkhalter. “We worked really hard this year and traveled a long way to get here. It’s a nice way to end a good tournament and also thank our sponsor.”

2008 ASA Women’s Major Fast Pitch Nationals

2008 held at Amherst, New York.

Champion – Southern California Hurricanes, Irving, CA
Runner Up – Western New York Extreme, Orchard Park, NY

The tournament was never completed, WNY Extreme lost winners bracket final and were supposed to play Brakettes, but the tournament was rained out and Southern Cal Hurricanes were awarded the championship as the only unbeaten team, WNY Extreme was awarded second and Brakettes third. Brakettes came into the tournament with a 52-1 record. After losing to the Extreme 2-1 in the 1st game, Brakettes won next 5 games by a 36-2 margin, before it was called. The Brakettes finished the year with a 59-2 record.

The Brakettes were very upset with the rainout decision, they stopped playing ASA National play and started an organization based out of Stratford, CT called the Women’s Major Softball. Other top teams were interested and the first WMS National Tournament had The Brakettes, WNY Etreme, St Louis Saints, and NY Freedom.

This decimated the ASA Major National Tournament in 2009, which was cancelled. In 2010, the WMS tournament included 2 more teams that played in that 2008 Women’s Major National; NYC Havoc and TC Tremers.

The ASA Women’s Major National Championship Tournament has not been held since 2008. Meanwhile the WMS has had 69 teams play in the 7 years that the WMS has been in existence, averaging about 10 teams per year.

Leslie Malerich, Stratford Brakettes had a 6 inning 8-0 one–hitter with 13 K and then pitched 2 games, 5 IP total in relief with 8 K’, including 2 wins – her totals were 3-0, 11 IP, 21 K.

Bailey Sanders of the Brakettes was 1-0, with a 1-0 five inning no hitter.
