Under the original format teams would advance to Labor Day Nationals through their state tournaments and national qualifiers. Labor Day Nationals were held in every region of USA Softball. Then teams would advance to Nationals which would occur in late September.

From 2008-2012, ASA went to the “4 Corners” Class C Nationals, the East, West, North and South winners met in a National Tournament sponsored by Hooters.
