Tom DeBernardo and Jeff Toni earned co-MVP honors as Sikorsky went 5-0 in winning its 8th Industrial title in the last nine years. Sikorsky outslugged the Com-Scope Scramblers 44-32 in the finals as Ed Muzyka hit four home runs and Mark Tremblay had five hits. Sikorski sent 22 batters to the plate in the sixth inning, scoring 17 runs on 16 hits, including a grand slam and a two-run shot by DeBernardo, a three-run homer by John Toni and a solo HR by Jeff Toni.

During Sikorsky’s 27 year run since 1967, they have won a record 10 championships and finished second 5 times. Their overall record in ASA Championship play is 144-36, 106-16 since 1979 and for good measure, have swept the last four Nationals with a 6-0 record (24 straight wins). Mark ‘Kip’ Trembley won his record 4th National MVP Award for Sikorsky.

Sikorsky won its 8th Industrial championship as Tom DeBernardo earned his second straight MVP award. John Danas, Mike Homkovics, Mark Tremblay and Ed Muzyka homered and Chris Dunne had three hits as Sikorsky defeated Sports Belle of Clinton, Tenn., 10-3 in the title game. Earlier, the champs knocked off Sports Belle 16-11 in the winner’s bracket final as Tremblay collected four hits, DeBernardo three and John Bike a three-run homer. Sports Belle defeated Sikorsky 22-21 in the first final to force the extra game, despite four hits from Pete Gribben and Van Alystyne and three from Tremblay.

Sikorsky won three games on the final day to capture another Industrial title, including a 14-13 victory over defending champion Delta Airlines on Mark Tremblay’s bases-loaded single. A 16-5 romp over Honda Wings of Maryville, Ohio, was powered by Mark Berritto’s four hits. A sac fly by John Danas in the bottom of the seventh beat the Honda Wings again in the title game 7-6. Tom DiBernardo was the tourney MVP.
